Is THCA Legal in Idaho?

Idaho requires all cannabis-derived products to contain zero detectable THC. All THC forms including delta-8, delta-9, and THCA are prohibited, making Idaho one of the strictest states in the country.

Quick Facts β€” Idaho
  • Idaho mandates 0.0% THC β€” zero detectable levels β€” in any legal hemp product
  • THCA classified alongside all THC forms as a controlled substance
  • Possession of THCA flower can result in criminal penalties
  • Idaho has not legalized medical or recreational marijuana
  • Only THC-free hemp extracts (e.g., isolate CBD) are legal in Idaho

THCA Laws in Idaho β€” Full Breakdown

Idaho has one of the most restrictive cannabis laws in the United States. The state mandates that any legal hemp product must contain zero detectable THC β€” not 0.3%, but zero. This applies to all THC forms, and THCA is explicitly classified alongside all THC isomers as a controlled substance.

Possession of THCA flower in Idaho can result in criminal penalties. There is no medical or recreational marijuana program in the state, meaning there is no legal dispensary channel either. Idaho stands almost completely alone in its zero-tolerance approach to all forms of THC.

Only THC-free hemp extracts β€” such as broad spectrum or isolate CBD products that have been processed to remove all THC β€” are legal in Idaho. If you live in Idaho or are traveling through the state, carrying THCA flower (or most hemp products) poses real legal risk. This is not a gray area.

What Is THCA and Why Does Legality Matter?

THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the raw, non-psychoactive form of THC found in fresh cannabis. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp plants containing ≀0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight are federally legal β€” regardless of THCA content. When THCA is smoked or vaped, heat converts it to psychoactive delta-9 THC through a process called decarboxylation.

Some states have added "total THC" standards that count THCA toward the THC limit. Others have banned smokable hemp specifically. The legal status of THCA varies by state and is subject to change as legislatures continue to address hemp regulations.

All Leaflyx products are federally compliant hemp with COA documentation.
